Architecture of Hung Kings Temple
The total area of the temple campus is 1,678 m2. The temple is 18m high, octagonal, the symbol of four directions and eight ways, architecturally placed on the bronze drum 250m2 wide with magnificent and majestic appearance of rivers and mountains that affirms the sustainability and solid platform more.
The temple is elaborately carved with patterns, motifs of Vietnamese old sculpture - the pattern on Dong Son bronze drum coming from the time of Hung Kings is implemented by a team of Suoi Tien artisans.
At both sides of temple gate are two epitaphs recording the merit of building and defending the country of Hung Kings, reminding Vietnamese people to keep, develop the country, eternally remember the merit of the ancestors. Entering the temple and stepping nine stairs, "The statues of Hung Kings are placed on the nine-stair throne".
The entrance to the temple is arranged eighteen bronze drums which represent for eighteen times of Hung Kings and two lines of Lac birds toward the temple.
Temple roof is octagonal with two curved stories, which is characteristic of folk architecture of Vietnamese temples. Eight executioner tops are eight Lac birds, their heads are towards to the top of the temple, symbolizes the reunion of ten ways and eight directions.
At the temple top, there is bronze drum image; the bronze drum is placed at the highest position, which is the convergence of spiritual mountains and rivers. On the drum, there are five gathering Lac birds representing that wherever Dragon and Fairy's lineage is, they still gather to Vietnam, to the ethnic origins.
Around the bronze drum inscribes legends of the nation's history: the Legend of Lac Long Quan - Au Co, the Legend of Mountain God - Sea God, the Legend of Watermelon (Mai An Tiem), the Legend of Thanh Giong, the Legend of Rice Cake - Sticky Cake..., which are legends rich of culture, full of humanity of Vietnam Ethnic.
The statue of Hung Kings
The statues of Hung Kings are 9m4 high, gold-inlaid (2kg) with assiduous, majestic, gentle, determined and kind man; the statues are placed on a throne nine-stair high, face to the North, where our ethnic originated.
Next to the statues are models of Rice Cake - Sticky Cake, the symbols of yin and yang, circular sky, square land symbolizing the gratitude to ancestors.
Behind the statues is the main altar, where worships 18 kilograms of land, 18 liters of water, 3 palms, 3 parachutes and a bowl of incense brought from the ancestral land of Phu Tho for Southern people to have occasion to admire and worship here despite having no chance to go on a pilgrimage.
Every year, on the 10th of March of Lunar Calendar, the national death anniversary festival of Hung Kings is solemnly held at the Hung Kings temple with solemn and monumental ceremonies. The most special is the mass of palanquin procession "National Ancient Hung Kings Travel Incognito to Four Supernatural Land" which is monumental with scrolls, parasols, five-color flags, palanquins and generals.
The mass of palanquin procession for Hung Kings reappears the period of building country, early opening the heroic history of the reign of Hung Kings with the the legends of Hundred Eggs Hundred Children, Lang Lieu, Mai An Tien and Mountain God - Sea God.
Joining the palanquin procession, there are more than 2,000 actors representing for 54 ethnic groups from all regions of Vietnam Fatherland with gorgeous costumes, beautiful and bustling in the dance, the sound echoing shades of each regions throughout the country.
The Vietnamese historical program is represented on the stage of Hung Kings.
The faith to worship Hung Kings - Vietnam is recognized by UNESCO as "Representative Intangible Cultural Heritage of Mankind".
UNESCO states: "The faith to worship Hung Kings expresses the reverence to ancestors and thereby increases ethnic pride and community cohesion”.
